Welcome to The SUNN Post, the national student newspaper produced by SUNN – the Students United News Network!
SUNN aims to help modernize civics education, empower student journalists, and help protect our democracy. A project of Kidizenship, our non-partisan publication is an outgrowth of our pilot project, Watch Us Rise, which published hundreds of pieces of reporting and opinion from high school and collegiate journalists nationwide.
A joint effort between student reporters, publication advisers, and professional journalists, the SUNN syndicates and commissions student writing, elevating to wider readership and awarding honoraria for every piece and graphic published — all by students, for students. SUNN counts among its ranks a fast-growing coalition of top high school newspapers and is a proud partner of SNO, School Newspapers Online.
We aim to professionalize student-produced content, increase its visibility, and develop a national readership that recognizes scholastic journalism for what it is: high-caliber reporting and opinion writing that ranks among the best in the country.
SUNN and The SUNN Post was founded by Vanderbilt University journalism professor and longtime Bloomberg columnist Amanda Little in collaboration with our Editorial Director Ryan Derenberger, who leads the award-winning journalism program at Walt Whitman High School in Maryland. Our Managing Editor is Evie Kennedy, and our editorial engine is student-run and led by Deputy Editor, Kate Rodriguez, a first-year student at Yale University.
Sourcing, editing, promoting and even composing articles, the students on our Teenage Board are an integral part of our team and exceptional journalists themselves: Wyatt Meyer of the ODYSSEY Media Group in Athens, GA; Danielle Arndt of The Feather in Fresno, CA; Lizzy Martinez of The Viper Times in Buckeye, AZ; Alara Göksu and Charlie Martin of The Black & White in Bethesda, MD; Taia Menefee of The Beachcomber in Beachwood, OH; Emily Ryu of The Spectator in New York City, NY; Andie Korenge of Eagle Eye News in Parkland, FL; Emmie Wolf-Dubin of the Hume-Fogg Knightly News in Nashville, TN; Ella Persky of the Oracle in Mountain View, CA; and intrepid reporters Julia Taylor from Los Angeles, CA, and Sam Yarkin from Washington, D.C.
